I didn’t get a turn in the cockpit! As teacher/supervisor, I HAD to let the kids go first! It was all good anyway.

Ending the day having lunch in the back of the C123 was something different too!

And I bet you climbed up into the cockpit and imagined what it was like hauling trash in the Vietnam war… 🙂

TT, more on the RTAF Museum can be found here: http://www.thai-aviation.net/W&R%20-%20RTAF%20Museum.htm I spent a year and a half working in Bangkok, and I visited the museum about eight or nine times. It really is an outstanding collection.

Incidentally, there are more preserved aircraft to be found in Thailand, see http://www.thai-aviation.net, and scroll down to wrecks and relics.

Dave, re the RTAF CT/4 Airtrainers, more details can be found here: http://www.thai-aviation.net/military%20-%20CT4.htm

Amazing collection. And they look in very good condition. Interesting to see the Firefly I, and also how many locally designed and built aircraft they’ve had.

I note they don’t seem to have a n NZAI CT-4 at the museum, are they still in service? Or did the museum not retain one when they left?

Nice site! I also have been there. I was teaching at an international school in Bangkok, and an American teacher and I decided to take our two classes on a field trip to the Air Force Museum. Not for the kids sake I must admit!

Most of their collection seemed in very good condition. The Spitfire and Bearcat almost seemed as though they were ready for a grease and oil change and a flight!

Some of the Thais are very superstitious. An engineer was telling the kids ghost stories, such as the Helldiver’s dead pilot (as it was found) still ‘being with the aircraft’. After a close look at the plane, a number of very freaked out girls came running from it screaming!! They were convinced they saw something!! Bit spooky.

Ending the day having lunch in the back of the C123 was something different too!

Been to the museum many times whilst on holiday (my wife is Thai) and I can highly recommend a visit. I think the website was down for quite a while, so thanks for the link. as I understand it, the Boripatra was an indigenous Thai design, not a Bristol type.
