While looking at documents associated with the supply of spare parts to the Afghan Government for their Hawker Hind aircraft, the Kestrel engine parts are given as Sec/Ref. 36DD/XXX etc.
I thought that 36DD was the Sec/Ref number given to the Merlin.
Can someone confirm if this is in fact the case?
I have other RR piston engines as:
36E Eagle Mk III
36F Falcon Mk III
36HH Griffon 57A, 58, 5900
36M Lion II
36P Condor Ib
36Q Condor III

I can confirm that RR Kestrel Stores Reference is 36DD, based on Vol III parts of AP1416D, Kestrel V & VI.
I do not know the Stores Reference for new fangled Merlins.
I understand US built Merlins used US part numbering.
I would be interested to see those Afghan docs…
