RR299 in 633 Squadron

I know what you movie/Mossie buffs are going to say-“No,she wasn’t in 633 but she WAS used in Mosquito squadron”.Well, having watched 633 recently,I noticed that there IS a T.3 in there, although which one it was if it wasn’t ‘299 I’ve no idea. The machine appears in the start up and take off sequence some way through the film, the training flight where one of them suffers an engine failure and crashes into the cliff after it’s bombing run.
The machine in question definately had a flat windscreen and appeared to have short engines and an un-armed solid nose.
Any ideas anyone?

633 Squadron
1964 *v
RAF- Cliff Robertson; Mosquito bombers attack heavy water plant. Filmed at ex-RAF Bovingdon, with 3 CAACU DH Mosquito TT.Mk.35’s

Total of 11 Mossies, 5 were flyable, including:

T.Mk.3 TW117 (Calif.)

Since when has TW117 been in California……thought it was still very much in Bodo…….

Indeed TW117 was the aircraft used by 3 CAACU’s instructor, Harry Ellis, to check out the civilian pilots on the Mossie prior the the filming of 633. In fact TW117, had been officially SOC on 30 May ’63 for allocation to the RAFM, but was loaned to Mirsch for the filming, being returned to Henlow after filming finished, grounded and put into storage until the RAFM was finished.

Thanks for the info guys,I didn’t realise TW117 was still airworthy at the time.Had me stumped!
Btw,I believe the TFC Mk.III is TV959 rather than ‘TV954’ as that listing states.
Are the identities of the ‘Me108’s known?

No, I meant the factory makes rocket fuel.

“At long last intelligence have come up with the answer to what they are. They’re rocket launching pads. Yes, the Huns have got a new operational rocket. [snip] Why don’t they use them? Fuel. Without very special fuel these rockets would be so much scrap.”

MarkG,

I am but the messenger but a quick check in the books confirms your posting – TJ118 was a B.35.

Yes indeed five were flyable, but correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the film includes any scenes showing all five in the air together?

They certainly did fly them together, as they all passed over my house one memorable day, in a losse gaggle behind the B-25.

Yes there was one T.3 used in the filming of 633 Squadron. It was Mosquito T.3 TW117, which, pressumably was still RAF/MOD owned at the time and was sometime later grounded prior to going into the RAFM Hendon when it opened in 1972. This airframe was later exhanged with Norway and is now at the Museum in Bodo.

Well Spotted Ant.

I was going to ask about this too but forgot!

I wondered if it was RR299 but as we all know she never participated in the film….

Cheers

Paul
