Rumour: BY to purchase 764/332

An old rumour now on Jethros site is that Britannia may be looking at the 764 or 332 for long haul services.

Their 763s aren’t that old so I’m not sure they ‘need’ replacing at the moment.

It’d be very interesting to see a 764 based in the U.K. though I think A332s would be more likely.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or any updates maybe?

767-400; max passengers 375, max range 10,400km

777-200A; max passengers 440, max range 9,500km

I guess the 764 and 772 are close enough, although the 772ER and 773 are a lot more capable and a baseline 772A has commonality with those types, which the 764 does not.

It’s certainly an interesting looking aircraft, I was just surfing through Airliners.net looking for photos of airlines other than Delta /Continental who operate the aircraft and came across some fantastic shots.

Is the 767-400 near enough the same aircraft as the 777-200?

The 764 can be seen as a bit of a flop but generally it has done its job. It was developed at the request of Delta and Continental only and so was really just a customers order that was made avaliable to other airlines.
There are a few potential orders from older 767 operators so I doubt the aircraft in the end will be a total failure.

Both types are new and we are in a very hard time for airlines. Anyway, the 764 has an interesting wing!

In my opinion Boeing were 10 years too late with their developments of both the 757 and 767.

It would seem they are the only operators of the type. Similiar to the 757-300 which is also not quite so popular amongst airlines.

I know Delta and Continental operate the 764 – not sure who else chose it.

I would love them to get the 764 as it would allow me to automatically have that type added to my license if their is one on a UK AOC.

The 764 thing was made such a big deal of, but theres not really many about is there?

I would to like to see the BY livery on an A330. Be good to see and it will add a bit of variety to the BY fleet! Plus isn’t the 330 a cheaper option to operate on long haul, compared to the 767?

I would have thought the 767-400 was more likely. It’s another Boeing aircraft for their all Boeing fleet and their crew are already trained on the 762 and 763 aircraft.

Exciting news and can only hope it’s true.

Its just that I though Kenya airways were to buty an number but they didnt. Maybe they were going to purcahse the ER version

Would obviously like to see them fly the A330, but I would think the 767 would be more likely.
I think the main problem with this may be the range, 330 beats it range wise by a long way I think, don’t know whether it could do some of the longer segments in the BY network?
