FFS Yes we can get APU/jet engines in the UK legal and above board!! There is too much nanny state going on here in the UK. You can’t do this you can’t do that:mad:

What a guy wishes to do in the confines of his own property is his own business in my book. If he has a redneck attitude to his own safety thats his own lookout.

What is wrong with a bit of eccentricity??

Personally want one myself for a go-cart project I would like to do:diablo:

..anybody here thinks that apart for the “improper handling”, it’s actually insane that he managed to get himself an APU??? Is it legal to get APUs in UK? The poor sod here seems to use it just as a garage cleaner, but there are many more potentially dangerous applications for it. Not to mention that if the thing blows up it’s like a bomb…

I would love to add that as a sound file addon for PSS Vulcan

I wonder if the folks at PSS could add this into their vulcan package for flightsim? Would be neat to have a runnable apu on the sim..!

We’re all the poorer on the forum without him.
He would certainly have been contributing to this thread with some of his wild stories starting up a chainsaw in the living room and dropping it right in front of the new leather settee, firing a crossbow through the wall, and yes, the gold smelting.

He would have used that APU as a hairdryer.

Mad! but I would be tempted if there was one lying around, wouldn’t you?

As for getting the way of jet efflux, for some reason someone thought it was a good idea to put one of the Weesex’s exhausts just in front of the door, not only did it make everything blurred when you looked out, it was always a shock when you forgot to duck under it on the way in/out of the cabin. It also gave you chronic diaro, diareah, dirhe….the runs for the first 2 weeks on squadron 😀

One of my model clubmates ran his Jetcat P80 up in his dining room (125 db!) and I have seen video footage of a jet model catching fire where the guys did not have an extinguisher, and had to stamp the fire out!!

Good on him?! what!?

I agree with creaking door about the nanny state, but I don t think its overzealous to tear a very big strip of this bloke, the footage proves that the guy has no idea whats going on inside this rover, unlike his barby, chainsaw or patio heater. His acting like an idiot just tars us all with the same brush!

Its guys like this that cause the “overzealous nanny state” propogation in the first place, by advertising this kind of stupidity across the web. 1) Theres no sign of a fire extinguisher anywhere 2) he has no business running the unit without an exhaust shield 3) he put his hand in the eflux twice! 4) He ran a super high rpm gas turbine in a tight, enclosed space, surrounded by fod, which shows he has no idea of the devastating energies involved in sustaining a gas turbine, or what would happen to him and his giggling friend if the comp or turbine broke up. To top it all off, he broadcasts this to all and sundry and gives the impression hes been drinking too. prat

sorry to get on a soap box 😡 its just irritating when most of us try to have a responsible and safe practice, and then a minority of bone heads like this, treat these machines with such flipancy. 😮

I think most would agree that this individual is not the best advertisement for responsible behaviour when operating a potentially dangerous piece of equipment but IMHO we should not get carried away here.

Apart from possibly burning his own hand (twice) was he guilty of any great negligence?

In our increasingly ‘health and safety’ conscious ‘nanny state’ my fear is that an over-zealous attitude will lead to more restriction of ‘minority’ interests but will leave the irresponsible free to harm themselves (and others) with more mainstream interests.

I’m sure this individual will have a similar attitude towards his barbeque, chainsaw, patio-heater and quad-bike but I don’t see any of those being banned any time soon.

Running an APU in your garage – not so good, putting your hand in the way of the exhaust – dang insane!!!!!.
