The Buccaneer Trustโs XX894 based at Bruntingthorpe successfully ran her newly install starboard Spey 101 engine yesterday.
In all the engine was started three times over the course of the afternoon to enable various checks to be carried out, with the aircraft achieving over 20 minutes total running time.
The engine was spooled up to just over 60% against the chocks and performed flawlessly.
This is a major milestone for the Trust whose members work every fortnight come rain or shine to try and get another Buccaneer active at Bruntingthorpe.
For those of you who saw my previous thread regarding the engine change may have noticed from the photos that we first attempted the change using slings. This method proved completely unsuccessful and we had no choice but to acquire the correct engine lifting frame which has enabled us to accomplish the job properly. This frame can be seen painted in yellow and mounted on top of the port engine in the attached photos as this engine also needs to be removed from some minor rework.
I must credit all of the other photos to various Trust members as I was unable to take my own as I was the elected engineer (pictured in the cockpit) tasked with performing all three engines runs ๐ ๐

Donโt forget Bruntingthorpe’s open day in two weeks time! (27th August)

Love the second from last shot, apart from the grass growing through the joints in the concrete she looks like she could be sitting on the flightline ready for another mission. Great work with keeping this fine jet in such good condition, Must try and get to Bruntingthorpe soon.

As mentioned on the phone, congrats to you all for getting the engine in and running in double quick time.
I see Mr Clements has already updated our site (Buccaneer Society) with this info.

Well done Plazz and chums- a credit to your hard work – the lifting frame looks a lot better than the slings (and tyres) and JCB!

It is refreshing lately to see all the excellent work going on up and down the country on various projects.
I have a lot of time for the guys at Bruntingthorpe, who work in all weathers, and have to work in the open, with no chance of shelter, and yet perform such fantastic work. I had a look over the Bucc last year, and it is a great credit to the guys working on it.

Here, here! the wind yesterday at Brunters was chilling, driving the rain, it felt more like winter in the Outer Hebrides, rather than Summer in mid-England!
I would not have been keen on working outside on an aircraft in those conditions ๐ฎ

So that’s what I heard!
I was there on a driving day yesterday (awful weather) and saw the anti-collision beacon running on the Victor so assumed it was that running an engine…
Well done chaps

Nicely done – I’ve spent too many open days wondering whether we’d ever see your Bucc taxi with everything else – your smug grin is very well deserved!! Hope your success continues.

Fantastic photos, well done! I’m not a huge parrafin burner fan, but the Bucc is a lovely old thing I reckon.
