Russia a member of NATO!

Exactly why was NATO formed? Since it no longer has a clear purpose (other than as a playhouse for bureaucrats), it is time to disband NATO.

RE: Russia a member of NATO!

Disband NATO.

The coldwar is over, ties between the US and Europe are extremely weak. NATO is an easy gateway for the US to continue its war on terrorism. I’m in favour of a European alliance (the West-European Union already exists), which could replace NATO in Europe. Solana, the EU- foreign expert, already quit his job at NATO, because he sees no real future in this organisation (and maybe because the pay cheque is a little higher :-)).

RE: Russia a member of NATO!

NATO is just something to keep Europe reliant on US military forces. Bush and Clinton have both been afraid that if NATO is disbanded, the US will no longer have a military role to play in Europe…which is why NATO should be dumped in favour of a European Alliance. The US needs NATO more than Europe!!!
This is not a defence issue, more an industrial one. Just think, why do countries like Denmark, Norway, Turkey etc buy F-16s and US tanks?
Because the US wants to keep NATO weaponry American weaponry!!! Just imagine if Europe didn’t have to keep “in standard” with each other. F-16s would become as rare as MiG-23s in the skies over Europe!!!

RE: Russia a member of NATO!

NATO hasn’t been itslef recently. Since the collapse of the USSR and WarPac it has (to one degree or another) been a tool for the Imperialist expansion of the US and it’s satellites. In ’99 it breached it’s own charter, at the same time as breeching that of the UN. It plainly displayed that it’s internal, beurocratic structure was no longer very “democratic” if it ever has been. Ultimately it is no longer a defensive organisation.

Do I think NATO should continue to exist? Yes, sure, why not. Or, you could get rid of it, stop the US bombing (or otherwise intimidating) little countries and generally allow everyone to get on with their own business without interfering just because they don’t give western multi-nationals preferred treatment. That’s not going to happen for a long time so you may as well keep NATO.

On a side note, I personally feel that the existence of NATO is endangering me and my family more than it is protecting them.

should change the name and shift objectives. The world is a changing place and NATO should do the same. The object Russia is in this kind of incorporation (in betweens) is to keep them quiet and telling them…ok you´re are also important¡

Unless somthing has changed since last night, Russia is not a member of NATO.

I do not think NATO should be disbanded it should be kept intact, and made stronger.
