Personally, I DON’T see why Putin is so anxious to be involved in these foreign entanglements.
1. Should or will the coalition cooperate?
2. Should the coalition stand down and let Putins nose be bloodied.
3. If months of airstrikes could not dislodge ISiS, why does Putin think his tacair will matter.
I don’t see the Russians end game here short of Chechnya style destruction. Discuss

[B]Putin named the number of Russians who fought in Syria[/B
https://www.gazeta.ru/army/news/10991798.shtml
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that more than 48,000 Russian servicemen participated in the antiterrorist operation in Syria, Interfax reports .
“Over two and a half years more than 48,000 of our officers and soldiers took part in the operation in Syria,” Putin said at the ceremony of awarding Russian servicemen who participated in the anti-terrorist operation in Syria.
According to him, “these are representatives of virtually all military professions: pilots and sailors, servicemen of special forces and military police, sappers, scouts, signalmen, medical service specialists, officers of government bodies”.
“You are worthy,” perfectly “performed the most difficult tasks on the Syrian land and returned to their homeland, their relatives and friends,” Putin concluded.
Earlier, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia General of the Army Valery Gerasimov called the main task of the Russian army in Syria for 2018.

Not at all surprised. But it is interesting to see how the minds of Russia’s military brand works. Especially about their ordeals in Syria.

Even better, the E-3 did not detect the Flanker.

Su-35 failed to detect latest US stealth aircraft… E-3 Sentry.
US aircraft may need to switch on lights at night in Syria so they can be detected.

There is no real withdrawal, methinks.. not yet.. Just Putin using Christmas rotation masquerading as a sign of victory before the next presidential elections..
After the elections, more troops shall be redeployed back to Syria.. My 0.02..
By: sepheronx - 12th December 2017 at 22:34
Do we know what is staying in Syria? The media makes it sound like all assets and people are leaving but on kremlin.ru they specifically state that the airbase and Navy base will still be manned, armed and used.

Proves my point , Russian president only travel on IL-96-300PU , its very unusual he travelled on Ty-214PU for such long flight.
The flight is not so long considering Tu-214 range. but in Middleast flying in smaller plane is very bad for optics. it is like trying to save money.
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/russian-president-takes-first-flight-in-new-tu-214pu-349498/
This extended-range aircraft, dubbed the Dalnii version, feature improved onboard systems, larger fuel tanks and a range of up to 10,500km (5,680nm). The Russian government has placed an order for over a dozen Tu-214Ds tailored to specific missions.
but he already turn around it with statement. I am sure they are building next generation bombs
http://kremlin.ru/events/president/news/56351
And if the terrorists raise their heads again, we will strike them with such blows, which they have not yet seen.
The problem until this point is Russia hasnt created the LNG/transport infrastructure in East that can benefit from high prices immediately if it chose to escalate in real and enforce no fly zones. any such escalation will benefit other producers or sink other economies. so there is a year or two left.
