What’s the current Russian air force basic trainer? Is it still the Yak-52? Several years ago I read that Sukhoi won a Defence Ministry competition for a new basic trainer with the Su-49 (defeating the Yak-152), whilst I also read that Yakovleve’s upgraded Yak-52, the Yak-52M, was going to be in production.
What’s going on with this?
I’ve read no new stuff on this matter since 2005.
