The aircraft passed acceptance tests, during which an abnormal situation arose. The machine was crimped. At M = 1.4, the headlight illumination headlamp was opened during refueling, fell off and got into the air intake, engine fire, failure of the remote control system. The test pilots Valery Kirilin and Alexei Gorshkov, who were on the plane, reported to the ground services that the right engine had caught fire at the plane, later they were ejected. The board was intended for the Vietnamese Air Force.

Самолёт проходил приемо-сдаточные испытания, в ходе которых возникла нештатная ситуация. Машина шла на обжим. На М=1,4 открылась фара подсветки ГЧФ при дозаправке, отвалилась и попала в воздухозаборник, пожар двигателя, отказ СДУ. Находившиеся в самолёте лётчики-испытатели ВП МО РФ п-п/к Валерий Кирилин и к-н Алексей Горшков доложили наземным службам о том, что у самолёта загорелся правый двигатель, позже катапультировались. Борт предназначался для ВВС Вьетнама.
