Russian Re-Engining solutions, are they a worthy i

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-06-02 AT 06:35 PM (GMT)]Reading the AFM/AI mags again and I noticed that the russians are again offering to upgrade and reengin Mirage fighters. This time it’s for the Chilian Air Force Mirage V/Pantera (Last time it was the South African F-1’s).

Given that the power offered is more than the Atar engines, does this represent a viable solution to short falls in capabilities and rising costs?

Granted that the pro is that a service could continue training pilots on the current type, but the conn is that sometimes the engine might not be suitable.

Can this work or should the Russians give up trying to push this idea?
