A Su-27 FLANKER of the Russian Air Force crashed in Lithuania yesterday (9-15-05). The pilot catapulted and is now in Lithuanian custody. The aircraft hit the ground 55 km from Kaunas.
Apperently the Su-27 was escorting a radar surveillance aircraft A-50 from Saint Petersburg to Kaliningrad when it run out of fuel.
Prior to the accident the Estonians complained that the lot of Russian aircraft violated Estonian airspace.
I guess that this will cause yet more obsticles with the already somewhat troublesome Russian-Baltic relations.
