Russia to co-produce 5th-generation fighters with India, France

NEW DELHI, January 23 (Itar-Tass) – Russia is discussing cooperation not only with India but with European countries, including France, in the development and production of fifth-generation fighters, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said in an interview with the Hindustan Times daily published on Friday.

Globalization of the arms industry is a world tendency, modern weapons are produced by joint efforts of different countries, he said.

Ivanov noted, “With the exception of the United States, no other country in the world is capable of providing the full panoply of military hardware and software that is 100 per cent indigenous. And even the US buys certain spares abroad because they are cheaper”.

“Russia does not lack advanced equipment. The Russian air force is supplied with Su-30s that are fully equipped with Russian-made radar, electronic countermeasures and avionics,” the minister said.

Any country has an opportunity to request Russia to supply arms. “It is another thing about what kind of response we give. It is our sovereign right to refuse some requests,” Ivanov said. According to him, Moscow intends to make full use of this right because of many considerations, including political ones.

Sound interesting, I guess that’s what you get from globalisation!
