Spitfire RW386 departed DX yesterday en route to new owners Biltima in Sweden.
The pilot, Bertil Gerhardt, has just advised that the aircraft has arrived safely.
After several practice circuits at mid-day the Spitfire departed mid afternoon between showers.

Very nice, Daniel, so there was some sunshine above all those angry clouds, eh?

Great pic – gotta be one of the most elegant Merlin-Spits, in my opinion.

G-BXVI was cancelled 29.8.07 and SE-BIR registered 31.8.07. First flight as such 3.9.07. Here is nice pic of SE-BIR taken by Erik Andersson at รngelholm 5.9.07 ๐

Mark,
At present we’re just storing it. No future plans have been made as yet though the 11 was sent on her way to Hungary last friday by road.

is that the yak in the background? if so, what are the plans for it? will it be a flyer or a static?
By: DazDaMan - 7th June 2007 at 08:58
Getting exciting now… ๐

Very nice.
How about rolling her out for Aero Expo this weekend, so we can have a peek? And the Yak, while your at it!

Yep you’re right, just checked the video back. My mistake, it was actually BM597 disguised as a rough looking BoB Spit! ๐
For the filming of Pearl Harbor… ๐

I’m pretty sure I was there… she wasn’t ๐
Biggin Hill, maybe?

I am surprised that the total is less than 20, – I really thought we had a few more than that
Its more than 20 ! I forgot TD248! ๐ฎ Post corrected.

I did, of course, mean Piece of Cake “make-up” – ’twas a slight joke ๐

Although PL983 DID have the four machine-gun look, albeit temporarily, around 1988… ๐
Do you have evidence to substantiate your statement Daz, as having examined the remains of the wings very recently there is no evidence of it ever having had any sort of cannon stub or “four machine-gun look” on the D section of the wings since they were rebuilt by Trent Aero. All of the WoGB aircraft that were substantially completed/flew were fitted with the same fibreglass stub barrels complete with off centre badly moulded gun barrels to my knowledge. Or are you referring to the fact that it was given red patches on the leading edge for “Piece of Cake” ?
By: Ant.H - 31st May 2007 at 20:26
Hi Daz,
I don’t think ‘983 ever had the four gun configuration, you’re probably thinking of Mk.IX NH238 which was also used in the filming of Piece of Cake.

I think you’ll find that all of Doug Arnold’s (the original owner after the RAF, Indian Air Force etc) Spitfires bar the PRXI had the four cannon look.

AR213 G-AIST is another ‘flyer’ on long-term engineering. Last flew about 1996, I think.
If G-AIDN T8 does return from the States that will help to balance the books.
And it’s a long time ago that HFL owned so few flyers.
