Hairy plane – yes indeed, Ryan replica was snapped at Coventry a few hours before its demise.

2 interesting photos.
I collected the ex-Breighton 22 – the 2nd(?)prototype 22 apparently? – with its new owner and flew it to Duxford, thereafter checking her out on type.
HP
Wasn’t that the one that used to be at La Ferte Alais and then was loaned to the museum at Angers?

Very Nice 🙂 , Thank’s so much 😉 .
Yes I read about the loss the replica 🙁 , R.I.P.Lad’s 🙁 , a very sad ending after so much work was put in to building her.
On a happyer note are there anymore Ryan aircraft picture’s out there in cyberspace 🙂 , that anyone would like to share with us all, Or just chat about Ryan’s 😎 .

I guess that the Spirit Replica was snapped at Coventry? I saw the whole thing, from initial break-up to the impact. A terrible tragedy…
Turning back to the 22 – whilst I have posted this link before, some may not have seen it. Interesting stuff!

Well I was just a hair’s breadth away from discussing the long and the short of it, but there would be hell toupee and you would only curl up and dye. This comment has hardly been a highlight and needs no extension. Got to go, I’ve been cut short …

P.S. I utterly adore PT22s – does anyone remember the article in Pilot (over 10 years ago). Whose was that?
PPS – PM on its way, HP.

Still around?
If this is one of the 2 Bob Mitchell machines then it is mouldering away at Cosford along with various other treasures.
Yet more pictures of my 22 in the air thank you.
I am looking forward to a lot more chuckling this season in the 22 (it really does have that effect – a hoot of a thing!).
My machines are in excellent hands and I would probably have a serious think about my future plans if they weren’t maintained at Old Warden.
I have been ripped off big time in the past – hours booked to my jobs that were spent elsewhere etc. and those companies wonder why they struggle for work.
The answer is simple. Our ‘Old Plane’ community here in the UK is quite small and reputations, good or bad, get acquired.
It is also a shame that some organisations with reputations for the best work seem to get tarred with the biggest ‘ripoff brush’. No small wonder then that they seem to struggle always for work.
The same is of course true in other industries. Its just that there are so few customers in this one and the awareness is thus a lot higher.
Employ my own engineers?
Never!
I’ll ‘stick’ to what I know (theres a pun for those who know what I do!) and rely on that to keep my planes in the air.

Hey Melvyn,
As a rule I always try to give the credit back to those who own the photos (it’s only polite) but also his website is awesome.
I spent half an hour just going through his historic aircraft photo collection.
Lot’s of information there, good resource for Rearwins and Ryans.Chers

AND he’s a nice guy.
Sorta makes you want to hate him!

Russ Williams, who took these photos, is a great guy and runs a very good resource for owners of vintage aeroplanes. He has posted the entire Warner Scarab manual on the web along with a lot of other useful stuff. He is a true enthusiast. I am glad to see you have posted his web address but I would urge people to go visit the site as there is so much to see.
Russ also has a Rearwin Sportster and is doing a great restoration job on it. I met him when he was over last year and flew with him. The SCW used to belong to another friend of mine and I flew that about two years ago. It is a very nice aeroplane but Russ is now making new cowlings. They will be better than new.
I heard today that Russ is planning to come over for the G-VFWE. Sadly I am likely to be in France then.

HP Aircraft, a bottomless pit into which you throw money. Hope all is well in the end with the chuckle machine. Has the Chief Engineer started scratching his head yet?
You could always just leave the pistion off, it wouldnt sound any different 🙂
