Ryanair Cancel Buzz at Bournemouth

Ryanair has announced that it is cancelling all of Buzz’s routes out of Bournemouth. Buzz was set to start flights to seven destinations including Paris Charles De Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol from Bournemouth on March 30th this year using three 737-300s.

However, with Buzz being brought from KLM by Ryanair on Friday these routes are now being cut before they have even started. Over 90,000 bookings had been made on the new routes, but Ryanair claims that it does not have the aircraft to operate the routes. Passengers are now being sent between Ryanair and Buzz trying to get answers, however there is chaos as passengers cannot get the information they need.

The implications for Bournemouth are worrying. Over 200 jobs that were created by Buzz’s arrival at the Devon airport are now being terminated and plans for a new terminal have been put on hold. Buzz would have brought a further 700,000 passengers annually to Bournemouth, doubling the current throughput.

Ryanair currently operates to Dublin and Frankfurt Hahn from Bournemouth and a new route to Glasgow Prestwick will start this Thursday.

Bournemouth are now looking for another airline to come in and take over some of the routes that Ryanair has withdrawn. Things are not all bad for the Devon airport though, there is an increase in charter flights scheduled for this summer and the new Southampton based JetB might consider taking on some of the routes.

Ryanair says it will focus on increasing frequencies on Buzz’s Stansted flights.

This seems rather poor to me. Ryanair say that they don’t have the aircraft to cope with the Bournemouth routes, however they are receiving new aircraft every month and have recently placed another order for more aircraft. This obviously has serious implications for Bournemouth and I just hope that another carrier can be found, or that Ryanair move into Bournemouth in the near future.

SAAB – 733’s are staying for how long? By the sounds of it not too long if they’re not repainting all the aircraft. Low costs seem set on one type, which for Ryanair is the 738 so I’d be surprised to see them around for too long.
Do you think they may sell a few of the -200’s early and replace them with -300’s for a couple of years before going totally 738?

733s are staying from what I know, however, will not be painted in a Ryanair livery- only the Ryanair name will be placed on the aircraft.
Also at least 100 jobs will be lost as part of the airlines restructuring, which includes lowing fairs and cutting half of the route network.

AHHHH no Belfast service then :S thats bad news and i think a bad move by Ryan Air! Bournemouth is the key low cost airport of that area (i mean immediate area away from Bristol)

If they have no aircraft then how did Buzz operate out of there. Surly they could use Buzz aircraft!

DO you think Ryanair will sell the 733’s as well as 146’s as they seem to try to make the whole ryanair fleet 738’s!

I doubt it is to do with aircraft. It is probably more to do with the destinations Buzz were going to operate as they do not fit into the Ryanair plans like CDG and AMS. It is a sad yet understandable move.
