Ryanair cuts Stansted flights

From TravelMole:

Ryanair is reducing its London Stansted services by 20% this winter, blaming higher airport charges.

It is cutting the number of aircraft operated from 40 to 33, which means reducing frequency or cancelling services altogether.

No details as to which routes will be lost as yet, but still could be interesting to watch for any further developments.

Ive heard that they are going to move the aircraft that operates the ORK flight to ORK so operating an early ORK-STN rather than a STN-ORK. I wonder will they do this with other bases and in reality not reduce the amount of flights into STN at all?

The was a news article i read about Ryanair grounding 7 aircraft at STN blaming BAA due to airport charges and poor facilities (Security/Passport Control ETC)

The 7 aircraft they propose to ground at STN will probably just be the aircrafts that Ryanair are getting rid of this winter

Probably yet more Ryanair posturing… Landing fees are only a relatively small part of operating a flight, and I can’t believe that if the services that get cut are profitable now hiking the average fares a few quid each won’t make them continue to be so. More likely IMHO there’s some Stansted routes that don’t pay, so now they’re using the nice convenient getout of blaming the BAA, rather than losing face by having to admit they can’t cut it on some routes.
