Someone at work told me today that Ryanair want to transfer to a Latvian AOC. Has anyone heard anything about this?
If this is true I’m assuming that the Irish flag of convenience they have used for years, despite effectively being a Stansted based airline, is no longer convenient enough for MO’L.

The rumour about FR transferring their aircraft to a Latvian AOC is aimed at reducing certification costs. Read here

What difference would it make? I would think that maintenance standards would HAVE to remain to same as they are regulated. Employment contracts are regulated by the country the national is hired from (Irish laws for Irish personnel, Belgian law for Belgian personnel etc). Could it be a tax reason only? How much tax does Ryanair have to pay to Ireland? I was under the impression that where tax regimes go, Ireland was very favourable in the EU.

Hey Phil, chill out. The guys are just expressing their understanding of the question I asked.
Anyone would think that we were attacking you personally the way you are replying.
Relax. Oh and thanks for your replies.

This could be true – it was in the Irish Independant newspaper that I got yesterday and O’Leary confirmed that thiis may happen, but stressed that the HQ would be still in Dublin.

O’Leary said pilots rights and wages wouldnt be reduced, I dont think he said it wouldnt be Latvia?

This is rubbish! They were thinking of transfering to another european cert. to reduce maintenance costs. The rumour about Lativa was to reduce wages & pilot rights but this is rubbish, O’Leary said it wouldn’t be Latvia.
Anyway, although being Stansted based, their head office is in Dublin and they do operate a sizeable base there!
