Ryanair Places Major Boeing Order

Ryanair Places Major Boeing Order:

Successful European low cost airline Ryanair completed a busy day Friday by announcing an order for an additional 100 Boeing planes.

Earlier, the Dublin-based carrier said it was buying rival budget operator Buzz, owned by KLM, at a bargain price.

The size of the Boeing order for its 737-800 aircraft dwarfed the Buzz deal. The 22 firm orders and 78 options are potentially worth USD$6 billion to the US plane manufacturer. Ryanair is paying just USD$25.85 million for Buzz.

The news comes less than a year after both Ryanair and Boeing announced the record aircraft order of 150 737-800s, the largest single firm order for Next Generation 737s ever made.

Seems like fleet stabilisation after the acquisition of Buzz, a sensible move if they are ridding themselves of the BAe 146 and continuously expanding. I think the 737s have established themselves as a very reliable aircraft for Ryanair and proved popular with passengers. Moreover, wanting to keep costs low, fleet commonality seems a very ordinary and satisfactory practice.

Also, this is their second major order. It’s unlikely that they would’ve switched aircraft types at this time.

Ryanair appears to be keeping Boeing afloat at the moment. I bet they must be getting some fantastic deal.

Would it be against the rules for Boeing to invest in an airline such as Ryanair ? I wouldn’t be surprised if they have already.

RE: Ryanair Places Major Boeing Order

I think the moves being made by easyJet and Ryanair lately are going to be crucial over the coming years when they each fight for the top spot in the low-cost area.

easyJet buys Go, Ryanair buys Buzz. easyJet signs an Airbus deal, Ryanair now signs a Boeing deal. Ryanair clearly lack ideas, hence the reason they are making all the right moves “after” easyJet.
