Ryanair problems

EI-CJC a -200 series (The Hertz Logo Jet), had to make an emergency landing at Charleroi due to hydraulic problems affecting the flaps and gears and the aircraft was evacuated using the emrgency slides at the end of the runway having spread hydraulic fluid all over the runway.
Attached is a picture of CJC at the end of the CRL runway.

Another incident was on Ryanairs first EMA service, when EI-CON (Another -200)s flaps wouldn’t extend more than 20 degrees. A safe landing followed with the emergency services deployed. The departure was then delayed by over two hours.

Now i’m not saying these -200s aren’t well maintained (I’ve flown on them and felt perfectly safe) but maybe the -200s are getting a bit tired with the amount of flying they are doing and very short turnarounds. I dont want this to turn into a Ryanair bashing thread, just a debate about whether you agree with me? I can’t see many problems with them if they were flying less regualrly and with longer turnarounds, but these -200s (Especially on the DUB-UK routes) Are doing lots of cycles day after day and maybe aren’t well suited with this type of flying anymore.

In this thread over at the Scramble forum is a passenger account of what happened. There were members of a Dutch Spotting group on the plane going to Dublin .

Off topic but did it really cost a penny to fly out of NCL LGKR?

yeah concorde, it did. the first sector cost me a penny, the second sector from dublin cost a cent and third and final sector of the day cost me minus figures – done quite well for being bored one afternoon after hearing some shocking work news!

cheers,

LGKR

Ryanair are currently offering some flights for free. You’ll even see that LGKR’s Bristol to Newcastle flight was -£2.50 (in other words, easyJet are paying you £2.50 to fly with them). However, you must add the airport taxes which seem to be a lot compared to other countries.

In Thailand, the tax added to an example flight I searched for was B160 (less than £2.50).

The accident happened yesterday evening. The landing gear was smoking. Thee flights were cancelled yesterday. The airport only opened again this morning.

This article is for dummies, so translated it means that the towere either warned them or the pilots saw a light in the cockpit that warned them. The take off was aborted.

Looks like another 732 will be scrapped soon…

I’m a bit worried about Charleroi in the first part! were operations disturbed? When did it happen? Where is the aircraft now?

I read this on airiners.net earlier LBA, cant say im anymore than just a tiny bit concerned – im meant to be flying a pair of 732’s on sectors towards the end of May. Couldn’t it just be totally conincidental that 2 732’s have been involved in ‘issues’ during the last couple of days or is it non-coincidental given the age of the aircraft and the high number of cycles they still operate!?

cheers,

LGKR

I did forget the pic but have uploaded it now.
I know FR are retiring the -200s, but they will probably be in service for at least another year (If not longer).

The 200s are being slowly retired. A few months back a handful where hurried out of service when cracks where discovered. Ryanair had to hire replacement planes for a short while.

BTW, your picture has not loaded. Did you remember to press the UPLOAD button? Just entering the location on your hard drive is no longer enough.
