Ryanair has said it expects to be leasing up to four aircraft to British Airways during next weekend’s industrial action by BA cabin crew.
Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’Leary revealed that BA Chief Executive Willie Walsh thanked him last night for providing three Ryanair aircraft at Gatwick during last weekend’s three-day action.
Speaking in London today, Mr O’Leary said he thought Mr Walsh was ‘managing the strike extraordinarily well’.
Mr O’Leary said he was ‘happy to help BA and its customers’ in what he described as ‘an unwarranted and unjust’ strike.
He said it was vital to the future of British Airways that they win the strike and said the board of BA should ‘stiffen their spine’ and stand up to the strikers, adding that ‘Willie is doing a good job’.
The Ryanair boss said the timing of the action by BA cabin crew was ‘spectacularly stupid’.
He went on to describe the leaders of the Unite trade union as ‘a bunch of out of control trade union headbangers’.

Considering the likes of Ryanair have been very much in the lead when it comes to cutting staff T&C’s throughout the industry I find O’leary’s comments somewhat ironic. Perhaps it is a ‘thank you’ to WW for the management of Aer Lingus during his time there.

I don’t like him much either. But he is usualy spot on when he does speak out about something and this comment is no exception.

I despise the guy, but he does make me laugh, and his comments are spot on.

MOL. Often blunt, often outspoken. This time he’s hit the nail on the head.
