Just got back from a long weekend in Brussels. I flew out last Friday afternoon from Liverpool to Brussels South (Charleroi). I havent been though Liverpool Airport for a few months so it was nice to see what was new at the airport. Several new retail outlets have opened including a WHS and Boots in the main departure lounge. Although I didnt have loads of time spare, I sat in the lounge for a while which I like a lot. There are large windows over-looking the apron so you get a great view of movements, saw Euromanx, Easyjet and a couple of A320s on Lourdes charters while I waited.
Our aircraft was a 737-800, we departed on-time at 1605 with a full load. Watched a Ryanair 737-200 board its passengers as we pushed-back, held before runway as an Easyjet 737 landed. The flight time was only 1 hour 15 mins and was pretty un-eventful.
Brussels South(Charleroi) is a fairly small airport and from what I could see, Ryanair is the only operator there, they had 2 other aircraft parked when we arrived. You have all the things you need taxis/car-hire/info desk etc, but it wouldn’t be a place you would want to spend hours. Which i didn’t, luggage was quick and I was off. I was heading for central Brussels, you can take a coach which is 10 euros, but I was very lucky and got a cab the whole way for 40 euros which was a very special rate and split 3 ways a bargain ! Travelled back to Charleroi by train (took just under 50 mins) plus a cab from the station
The flight back was pretty similar again on time departure and a full flight. We arrived back in Liverpool slightly early. Noticed on the departure board as I left Charleroi, FR flights bound for Stansted,Shannon, Barcelona (I think this is actually Girona) and a couple of Italian destinations, the airport was busy.
All in all an Ok trip, nothing to complain about i’d use it again. I understand that 100,000 have now used the service from/to LPL since it started.

Glad you enjoyed the ride. Let’s hope Ryanair open up some new routes from LPL in the future.
As for the snack trolley, I find it too pricey, so I do a BYO with food and a thermos of coffee (guess they think I’m an OAP or something… 😀 ).

The other airport in Brussels is called National or Zaventem it is the main airport for Brussels and Belgian. I had a sandwich from the snack trolley, it was ok, cost about £2.50.

GOOD REPORT carl727uk! What is the name of the second airport in Brussels and I assume that it is more active than the airport you arrived at!
