On the 3rd of March late in the afternoon, S.1. Buuc XN923 fired up the port Gyron engine. This was the final task in the engine change that had started last September.
It was blown over three times. The first time dry to ensure that nothing nasty was in the rotating bits, second blown wet – all fuel on and finally the third run with the “crackers” on to ignite the fuel.
It started without any problems and ran up smoothly to a fast 52% idle, this has been adjusted down and just awaits a second run to confirm the throttle rigging. This could be done anytime in the next few days/weeks.
Once we have tested it sufficiently we will then be in a postion to run both Gyrons, something we haven’t done for many years.

Is it my imagination, or is that what looks like a fair sized bomb bay for the size of aircraft it is?
This is looking like a great achievement by all involved…very very nice!

Further restoration work has been carried out on XN923, following the engine change much cosmetic and mechanical work is planned.
Last week 923 had cleaning comence of her bomb bay prior to the fitting of a full set of stbd 950 and 1000 lb bomb carriers. This was not made easy with everything having to be passed through the bay access panel due to the bomb bay hydraulics being non fuctioning at the moment as it is stuck in emergency mode, a problem being chased at the moment but with the carriers in its now looking good.

Great news Peter congratulations! Any chance of a video of this??
Either being behind the controls or crewing, we never get the chance to take video of airframe runs unfortunately. We will endavour to make a point of doing appointing a camera man in future. This video not so long (6 months?) back and is much the same, but on the s/b engine, although the port engine was tested at various power settings last week.

Terrific news!
Being a trials aircraft, I suppose she has quite low hours?

Good news, thanks for the update, must be great to hear a Gyron running.

That is brilliant news Peter, well done. Have to say that this Bucc is really one of my favourites in the collection, and such a rarity as a working S.1.
Any chance you can post when you next plan to run her, as i would like to pay a visit?
