I remember seeing the two S-61s flying over Castleton ROCHDALE, in transit from Heaton Park to Leeds ………..

British Caledonian Helicopters assigned two of their S-61’s to the Papal Tour of 1982, for transportation of Pope John Paul II and his entourage around the UK. I saw them land in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park, where the pope gave mass in front of a crowd of something like 300,000…

Of course that may have have nothing to do with your pictures, oh and nice BA BAC 1-11 in the background. 😎

Yes, that was it, they also allocated a BCAL BAC1-11 to the tour too. Remember seeing the 3 at RAF Leeming. 16 at the time. 2 years later went to work for BCAL at LGW.

If I can remember seeing those helos in 1982, I sincerely hope I’m old enough to drink beer…:D:diablo: In fact I was 11 at the time.:rolleyes:

I don’t remember the Cally 61s at Manch even tho it was my 2nd home in the late 70s early 80s. I do recall one or two KLM 61s which I think were in for the Pope’s visit.
And may I add, typical Manch weather!
