BTW I remember seeing a piece of film of an Mi-24 flying over Kabul with its wingtip ATGMs fitted and the inner pylons equipped with 80mm 20 shot rocket pods, but no weapons on the outer weapon pylons to reduce weight. From memory it must have been an E model Hind as it had SHTURM ATGMs and the 12.7mm 4 barrel gatling in the nose turret.

Nice picture showing an upgraded Indian Hind with 57mm and 80mm rocket pods.
However the FLIR ball turret suggests this aircraft was not used during the 80s when the Soviets were in Afghanistan and is actually a quite recent photo.

Sorry about the quality, but look at the guy third from the right with the belt of 30mm grenades around his neck. Check out the Hind behind him, it has a 20 shot 80mm rocket pod fitted.
By the early 80s the new 80mm rockets had become the preferred unguided rocket pod. The 57mm rocket beign a bit light though able to carry more rockets. For heavier targets the much heavier 80mm rockets were much more useful.
