yes it apparently a full technology transfer but the article is not 100% clear on this. The contract has been signed, it was apparently signed on Decemeber 2 and leaked to Janes first.

The NII Stali website also has an interesting bit of Russian tank news on it that escaped my all seeing eyes until now. Apparently they have developed a new ERA and actually displayed it at the Nizhny Tagil arms show, they claim its twice as effective as Kontakt-5. If the performance numbers are true it will stop all modern NATO rounds.

they are calling the upgrade “sling shot”

But the story doesn’t seem to match up with private conversation and interviews with the MBT-X design team who’d said that the German AWISS system was the primary model for the APS on the new tank. Even the grenade launcher on the models displayed repeatedly had similar appearance to the AWISS than ARENA.

It sounds like technology transfer of Arena system and domestic development using other Western technology as well. What’s certain is that South Korea isn’t interested in buying the system in its entirity.

If you ask me its a fantastic way of advancing ones own Industry.

Good for South Korea, I have read things that suggest that the black eagle was developed with Sout Korean, funding/interest, I wonder how much of that tech ended up in the new korean tank?
