Sad to hear that over Christmas and New Year both Dambuster, Canadian, Squadron Leader Ken Brown, who as pilot of Lancaster ED918/G AJ-F attacked the Sorpe Dam passed away at 82 as did USMC Brigadier General Joe Foss with 26 Kills. Spare a thought as a lot of the Forum is about machines when, at the end of the day, its people that matter most.

>>>Bit of a brain fart re the message board!! My apologizes.
I met Ken Brown at a Mess Dinner at the Calgary Aero Space Museum last April. A True gentleman and hero in every respect. His account of the Dam’s Raid from one who was there will stay with me for a long time. I believe there are only a very few of the original Dambuster’s left. Ken, I salute you as one of our true Canadian heroes

Rest in Peace Ken…
Saw his last interview on BBC2 , full of dark humour, excellent.
Rest in Peace Ken.
Would have been nice if the Canadians gave him a flypast…

RE: S/L Ken Brown 617 Sqn.
This is indeed sad news, the only comfort being the knowledge that the world is a better place for us due to the lives they led. I wonder just how many people passed these two old men in the street without a clue as to the service they had done for their countries.
We largely see people as just the outside shell, a nice old chap who I see when taking the dog for a walk, always pleasant, says hello, nothing remarkable about him at all. He passes away and the local paper runs a headline like ‘War hero dies after long illness.’ This quiet, unremarkable man was the holder of a Military Medal for his actions in Italy. His story is now lost, and with it the opportunity to show the gratitude we should all feel for the service and sacrifice of that generation.
