That’s probably not the S-400 you’ve seen, rather the S-300PMU-2 FAVORIT system. If it’s the same thing I’ve seen, that’s the case. The S-300 and S-400 TELs are visibly different: the S-300s have antannae for datalinking mounted atop the telescoping pole, the S-400 has a box-like thing on the pole.

Does anybody have any pictures of the S-300VM/VMD systems? or S-400 for that matter, I have only ever seen one for the latter, it appeared to show a standard s-300 4 round truck mounted launcher, but with one of the cells replaced by four smaller.

The S-300VM and S-300VMD are native designators for the Antey-2500 SAM system. The S-300VM’s 9M82M and 9M83M missiles have ranges of 200 km against airborne targets.

There is now an improved version called S-300VM im not sure about the details, although i have read that there is a plan to combine it with the S-400 system to create the samozherts system that is meant to appear after 2012.
