So sad, hopefully a lot more survive. Looking at BBC weather, the weather in Irkutsk looks rainy, which is most likely the cause.

Why do Russia and China have such an abominable safety record?????

You have to admire the speed of Russian air accident investigators though. Less than 24 hours after the accident they categorically state the aircraft suffered brake failure. Why don’t we have their investigators over here? We would only need a few if they can diagnose faults that quickly. Good to see the Russians spin doctors are as alive and well as our own.

I was overhead Irkutsk heading eastbound at the time of the crash but didn’t hear about it until we got to our hotel and switched on BBC World. Very sobering.

– Fourth Irkutsk Accident in a Decade
– Another Russian A310 Incident in post-Soviet Union EraFew Facts for you to bare in mind, I suspect the conditions at Irkutsk was the cause, I believe this is the cause for many incidents up in Siberia.
All indications so far are of a braking issue. Seems the weather may not have played a part.
But lets not jump to conclusions, as HJ rightly says.

Don’t be too quick to jump to conclusions. It is rare for the weather to be the cause of an accident. It can quite easily be a contributing factor though. Accidents are not as simplistic as that but more an error chain that occurs. In one model they liken it to slices of Swiss cheese with holes in and all the holes finally lining up to lead to an accident.
