Saa 747-400

I’ve just got back from the airshow at Duxford and have had the pleasure of seeing one of the best solo displays I’ve ever seen. The aircraft? A South African Airways Boeing 747-400.

Incredible………..

Hole in one Kev. If the aircraft was ‘cleaned up’, ie flaps retracted it’s minimum safe speed would probably be in the region of 230-240 knots. This would increase the turning radius and take the display much wider and further from the audience. To fly slowly in safety the flaps would have to be deployed.

Hi,

Anyone know why it was doing the display with flaps deployed?

Thanks

Kev, as per usual you have provided us with a selection of very nice pictures.

Wannabe, what BA model was it? Did it have the Rendezvous tail?

That display was absolutely brilliant, I was there too. The registration was ZS-SAK. There were some very good models for sale there aswell, for cheap prices. I recommend trying to find the wings and wheels stall when you are next at a major airshow, they offer some fantastic prices on civil and military aircraft models. I bought a Starjet 1:200 BA 757 for £18, and two dragonwings 1:400, a AA DC-10 and a Delta 777 for £10 each. And they weren’t sale prices, it was just normal.

Hi,

SAA always do a excellent display. At the Cricket World Cup this year they did a wonderful display with the A340-600.

Thanks

I was so impressed I never even looked for the registration! Do you think it shows that the Captain flies a Spitfire in South Africa and has flown with several aerobatic teams.

Even Myrtle Avenue will seem boring after this.
