Hi all , i dared have a look at the Burma spit saga thread today all 148 pages of it .
I thought it sad that as an historic aviation forum we cant have a trading buy/sell section to help projects that exist in the flesh , yet 148 pages of net space can be taken up discussing condition/value or otherwise existence of any number of spitfires ( i forget how many there have being so many numbers quoted ) that may or may not have being buried crated ready for reuse that today may or may not still be there , most likely were never there in the first place as in most disposal cases where aircraft were buried they were made to fit the hole with a bulldozer not the hole made to fit the aircraft crated or not.
Time to pull or heads out of the sand/hole/trench/buried crate which does not contain any spitfires and have a bit more focus on projects that actually exist .
my 2 cents.
cheers dave

Key publishings “Flypast” magazine already has a classifieds section in the back of it, doesn’t it? So according to Moggy, if you run a classified in “Flypast” , then you can advertise on here.

Reckon you’re on to a winner with a classfied online section – as long as cost was reasonable and they accepted Paypal for advert fees would do well I reckon!

Your spell checker is not working properly. The combination “too many Tempests” is illegal 😎

Smart alec. Who is alec anyway (no, never mind).

There were too many Tempests. That’s why almost all of them got scrapped.

If there were really too many Spits, they’d be selling for Cessna money…:p
By: HP111 - 6th March 2014 at 12:56
It’s clearly a question of balance. I don’t think you would get me saying there are too many Tempests!

Too many Spits…? Naaaa….no such thing. The ‘problem’ is only that there is ‘too little’ interest in the other types, or, logically, there’d be too many of them too….!

Dave!! Have I got a deal for you.
In my backyard I know there are several crates of old Boomerangs buried complete in every detail. Well that’s what me old dad told me and he hardly ever touched a drink in his life, it went down too quick. Now you are welcome to come and dig them up so long as you don’t upset the cat (Mr Hairy Legs) and promise when you finish to put in a nice vegie patch for me. Every time I pluck a nice ripe tomato I’ll think of you – I promise.
Maaate!!! I can’t say fairer than that. 😉
Hi Malcolm great count me in i will make it my life’s work as long as you can put me up in a nice room with hot meals , will bring spade fuel and oil for the boomerangs when they appear pristine out of there crates , we will need to clear your back yard to get a strip long enough to fly them out.
cheers dave

How’s about charging for an advert? Works well on the milweb for military vehicles.

There is also the potential legal liability
This would also be true for printed adds.

Dave,
The rationale is simply that Key earn their money from producing magazines in which they sell advertising space,
Hi Moggy yes i understand what you are saying but realistly we would be lucky to see 1 column of adverts for actual aircraft parts in the mag .
Most other major forums aircraft/military collectibles have forsale sections.

There is also the potential legal liability of being included as a party in lawsuits brought over dissatisfaction with a purchase of an item sold via such a section.
This HAS happened to magazines that hosted that kind of a section, as some courts have held that the magazine is expected to make a reasonable effort to prevent fraudulent sales and sales of illegal goods.
This would mean that Key would have to check out each person placing an item for sale, as well as the item. You can see how that would cost them a considerable sum.

As a further aside to the Spitfire question, I remember the last time I visited Duxford, there were so many Spitfires there I thought isn’t this getting just a little bit boring. Now a hangar full of old jets – that would be a different matter!

Dave,
The rationale is simply that Key earn their money from producing magazines in which they sell advertising space, which funds the whole operation, including this forum which is available to all, for nothing.
Any group or company that takes paid advertising space in the journals are welcome to duplicate their message here (Always ask mods permission first so we can check with advertising).
To allow free advertising here would threaten the income stream that supports the forum.
