Saddam's Sons Believed Dead in Iraq Raid

Associated Press Writer
Tue July 22 1:00 PM ET

MOSUL, Iraq – Saddam Hussein (news – web sites)’s sons Odai and Qusai were believed to have been killed Tuesday in a raid by U.S. forces who surrounded the home of a cousin, a senior U.S. official said. Two other Iraqis also were killed.

The official, a member of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad who spoke on condition of anonymity, said investigators were “awaiting positive DNA testing” to confirm the identities.

The raid triggered a gunbattle at the house in the northern city of Mosul, where residents told an Associated Press Television News cameraman that American soldiers had come looking for Saddam’s elder sons.

Hand

No I don’t believe he has any power but given his record of self deception I am surprised by the statement he has made. In any event, he has done the US a favour. 🙂

As to your last comment. Aye to that.

Do you really think that Saddam has that much power right now?
I’m not that sure. He is a hunted man.
He has obviously a bunch of money , but it might be hard to slip through the net.

I never hid that I was not for this war , but not that it’s done I wish that the allies will finish the job and complete the cleaning of this naughty regime.

I would imagine that now that Saddam has confirmed that his sons are dead, we will be spared all the “its just an American trick”crap making the rounds in the ME media. Frankly I am surprised by the admission. I would have thought that encouraging doubt about the deaths and the belief by some that the US faked the killings, would have served his purpose better.

Of course it won’t solve all the problems that are over there, but it’s certainly a good thing.

Why try to find a negative aspect about it??

I am not going to cry for them of course, but I am not sure if this will help to solve things in Iraq. The situation is getting muddy for the US administration.

It is indeed good news that the sons of Saddam Hussein are accounted for. I can’t help thinking though that the US have missed an opportunity here. A six hour gun battle involving two hundred American troops against four Iraqis. The employment of at least ten TOW missiles as admitted by the US commander resulting in the deaths of Saddam’s sons. With such overwhelming fire superiority would it not have served the Americans purpose better to capture them? The Iraqi people would then have had to accept that the regime was at an end, rather than being faced with bodies which are hardly identifiable to the majority of us.

So, they’re dead, and I shed no tears over this, it’s no more than they deserved. I just feel it would have been better to have tried them in a court of law and then executed them rather than creating possible martyrs.

It’s been reported that the White House has released some rather gruesome photos after the raid to help convince some of the inbelieving Iraqi’s (probably the ones putting up resistance I’d guess) that Saddam’s regime really is over, and that it’s not worth fighting and dying for anymore.

On another brighter note, I found out in my local newspaper today that the Kiowa Warrier that led the air raid (there were two of them and this particular helicopter was the leader of the two-ship) was crewed by two guys from the Army National Guard (Aviation) unit in my home town! One guy lives in the same city I do, and the other guy is from a smaller town not too far from here.

Needless to say it’s rather exciting, but I just thought I’d mention it. (Not that anyone in particular cares….just had to mention it nonetheless though.)

Sounds like a glorious death 🙂

Anyway , I don’t think that Iraki people (most of them) will miss them.

I’m told what happened was that Odai and Qusai locked themselves into a toilet just off the main bedroom on the top floor of the house, while their bodyguard stood outside firing at US troops.

The US troops backed off and then from the street outside put a missile, TOW + AT4, into every room of the house, one by one, through the walls.

Odai and Qusai were killed instantly… unfortunately. They were both found dead in the toilet.

It has actually been confirmed now by tests that both Odai and Qusai are dead, which is of course a great thing.

I was reading an article in our local newspaper about them both, and I was shocked at some of the things I read that they had done, particularly Odai. (Not that Qusai was much better mind you.)

Torturing athletes when they didn’t perform….

Having women kidnapped off the streets to he (Odai) could rape them….

I mean I always knew that Saddam and the people in his regime have done horrible things, but I never imagined these types of things. I could go on and on about the other torturous things mentioned in the article, but it makes me sick to my stomach.

I’m just glad those two individuals are now dead, and no longer a problem to anyone.

Let’s just get Saddam now.

P.S. The OH-58D Kiowa Warrior does carry and fire the AGM-114 Hellfire ATGM, so it’s likely they used them (possibly the new variant first used by USMC AH-1W’s?) in this raid.

I hope it was some of the helo guys from the guard unit here that took part in the raid.

Our helicopters have been sent to another guard unit (some might still be in the Gulf), but apparently the crews are still over there using Kiowa’s from other units.

Our unit is due to get Apaches sometime next year to replace the Kiowas that have been moved. (Sorry for going a bit off topic.)

And one in the eye for those who were slagging off military intelligence a while back I think…

Sorry to be a party pooper – but the bodies of whoever died remain in an “unidentifiable” state.

If ture, great, and if not….

A small loss for the Hussein family, but one giant gain for humanity.

Good news! Justice finally caught up with two of the nastiest specimens of mankind who enjoyed gratuitous violence. Now just get Saddam.

Best regards
