Safdarjung Airport – New Delhi – India

I drove along a highway recently in New Delhi, India and noticed an airfield in the middle of the city which I believe to be Safdarjung Airport. Appeared to be very retro and for some reason reminded me of a sketch from the cartoon book “Tin Tin”. Was this Dehi’s Old airport? and did such aircraft such as the Air India Lockheed Constellations lumber out of here enroute across the empire? Any information or pictures would be welcome.
