The idf/af is testing a new safty precaution to increase the survivability of the pilots & the warriors inside.
In an experiment that was held lately, an CH-53 was dropped from
a highs of 8.5 meters & saftly “fall” on 36 air-bags.
The idea for such a system came after the crash of 2 CH-53, 5 years
ago.
The experiment was conduct by Rafael & it is the second level, (the
first level was with an Bell-206 & 3 air-bags).
The should work in that way: when there is a malfunction, the pilot
starts the system that activate a sensor that cheking the high
of the chopper, when it came to about 1 meter, the air-bags are puffed up.
The test went well & in the future it will be testing with a CH-53
loaded with fuel tanks, engines & some systems
