Salamander Books

Does anyone know what has happened to Salamander Books? Have they gone out of business? They churned out affordable defence books for years, but I’ve seen nothing recent with that imprint.

A google search for their name + London produces only a reference to a bookshop.

I heard a rumour that they had moved out of defence publishing and were finally swallowed up by a larger company.

Thanks for that information. I have looked at the Anova website and it seems that Salamander has been reduced to a packaging operation. There are no signs of traditional Salamander-style books in their current catalogue.

So for all practical purposes, it seems that the Salamander we knew is history. That must have been bad news for many of their regular military authors – Gunston, Spick, Richardson, et al. But it is my understanding that in general, the heyday of that sort of defence publishing ended with the collapse of the Warsaw Pact – the mass market shrank dramatically.

Also I would guess that in an era where a day’s work with a scanner can convert any book into an illegal e-book, there is little future in publishing the sort of modestly-priced reference books that Salamander used to turn out.
