Just looked at the Sally B website, Lloyds of London, Richard Branson and a private individual have arranged insurance cover for the rest of the season.
I now have a reply from the Minister for Transport stating that EU member states are cosidering amending the Regulation to reduce the scope of cover for aircraft such as Sally B.
I like the sound of that, hope it happens and they reduce it to a sensible figure.

Maybe they could go round with a collection bucket and credit card machine and collar all those who stand outside the fence to watch airshows.
Will you be at Legends ??????? 😀

Please note my original comment about paying for access to this forum was not meant to be taken too seriously !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll attribute the various comments to the heat of the day.
Mind you, it would cut down on the number of Muscadet induced alter egos posting.

I agree that Sally B is important but NOT the only historic and important aircraft in the country that is (or will be) affected by this ridiculous situation.
If the forum members are going to be charged to use the forum the money should go into a central fund and allocated evenly/fairly to all historic aircraft operators but………1) how many would continue to be here and 2) who would decide what is fair and even, one of our moderators??
maybe there should be a poll to see how many would pay and then another poll to decide who the money goes to.
Nice idea but it implies that we/the warbird world should be resigned to accepting the situation instead of trying to obtain exemptions for historics – i imagine that the Insurance Companies would be delighted to accept our hard earned!

Paying for forum access? Don’t make me laugh. Overnight 95% of posters will disappear and thus it’s no longer worth paying for.
With the Forum as a fund holder we’d be able to charge for the pictures that we post. :diablo:

Surely it’s the lurkers that should be charged as they they make no contribution but get all the benefits. A nominal charge for members and 10 times more for lurkers. They either then buy the magazines or contribute to avaition via payment to the Forum. Can’t see it myself though but it didn’t cost me anything to conjecture, so it is my opoinion and I am sharing it freely. 😉
If WE are going to be charged then perhaps it should be done by number of posts. 10p to start a new thread and then penny per post, but credit of 1p per 10 posts by others against your own threads. Pay in advance by direct debit or credit card to buy credits. It might not be popular but boy would people think twice before posting mindless cr@p. Including this post from me. :p
But then who’d police it and administer all the costs and distribute the cash. Surely not our very own moderators.
No no no , far to complicated and besides, most of us make voluntary donations and pay to go into airshows and museums. They will simply have to charge more for their attendance and pass the cost on to all those attending airshows.
Maybe they could go round with a collection bucket and credit card machine and collar all those who stand outside the fence to watch airshows.
I am sure we could ask the Eurocrats to work with the FIA. They’d be sure to come up with some interesting rules. 😀
There’s my pennies worth. Now who and where do I pay?

….and what about all the other old aeroplane operators? etc. etc.

OK let’s make it £30 a year, £213,000 should take care of all the historic aviation insurance needs for the year, and cut down on some of the mind numbing posts on the forum 🙂

Here’s a solution, there are 7126 registered members spread between these forums, what if key were to charge £3.50 to each registered name for the privilege of using the forums. The proceeds of which could go towards the costs of insuring Sally B.
Now that’s a stealth (bomber) tax I’d support!

Thought it was a very good report – good friend of mine was the reporter! 🙂
Maybe you could have a word and educate him then !!!!

Just on Look East lunchtime news – who cares what logo it has on the tail as long as it allows it to fly. And as mentioned somewhere else isn’t it time for a new paint job – Vascillating Virgin was a suggestion….
