I see over on WIX that Sally B has had a respray…
Her new scheme is… Wait for it – the same one! the film Memphis Belle…

A good reason why they would not use non USAAF colours:
B-17 Flying Fortress G-BEDF Sally B is the last remaining airworthy B-17 in the UK, from where she flies regularly at air shows, memorial flypasts and commemorative events as a memorial to the USAAF in Europe.

I just came past the airport on the old puffer and it looked like Sally B was being readyed for flight.

Specifically, the maritime colours rather than the handful that served with Bomber Command. This is the best I can find from the net in a quick Google…better than nowt, and there were also B-17Gs with the RAF as well.
Just a thought.

I actually prefer the old tatty, patched, faded paint, with oil and exhaust stains etc. Much more authentic and I think that makes a much more interesting photograph.
You raise a good point there.
Maybe to be truly authentic, whilst her paint is pristine she should have just a couple of missions on her tally.
Then as the paint fades and the stains spread, a few more could be added each season, until when she looks scruffy and mission-worn the full tally is present?

Shame a new colour scheme couldnt have been chosen. But….. at least she is still flyin and thats the main point.
wow she looks brilliant cant wait to see her 🙂 ,yes thats the main thing that she is flying in the UK! whats DC9 media?
If I had the money I’d sponsor her to wear Coastal Command colours for a couple of seasons. But, alas, I haven’t.
William
Is that in RAF ccolours?

It’s a shame a new scheme wasn’t chosen, but it’s good to see they have the money ( from somewhere ) to spend cosmetically, rather than just on parts and insurance.
Keep up the good work SB Team.

The nose art looks a little more realistic than the older version. look at the differences in the face…

It appears from the ‘Sally B’ web site, she’s scheduled back at Duxford tomorrow.
It’s the ‘News & Events” for further details. http://www.sallyb.org.uk/

PS – ‘She’ does look nice, doesn’t she? The rest of the aircraft’s not bad either. C.

Lets hope that the olive drab they use this time is something a little more realistic in colour this time. The pure green she has worn in recent years has spoilt her looks.
