Head in the Clouds
Found it – not a bad movie, generally pretty good, featuring Charlize Theron and others. Plot as above.

Another similar film?
Trailer looks good. I fairly recently (last year or two) saw (on TV or DVD) a very similar film, by which I mean similar plot … female (American character if I recall correctly) initally just interested in a good/comfortable life no matter the circumstance look after herself turned and began to spy for the English, in Vichy France, cozied up to the Germans, and right at the end of the movie was executed by the resistance as a collaborator. Meanwhile her one true love is trying to get to her, etc. Anyone know the one I mean?
edit – more – The film starts out around the time of the Spanish Civil War, featuring three main characters (a guy and a girl who are both lovers of the American character mentioned above – yes she’s bi, or frankly, omni-sexual) then there’s death and heartache etc, and going separate ways, ‘x’ years later the guy and the American female meet again in Paris, the war is on, he’s now an Allied spy, and so it goes as I mentioned above.

Bit of background from a pair of Aussie film critics and an interview with the director.

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. No doubt historical hokum, but as a wartime thriller it’s a good yarn. Quite long at 145 mins, but the time absolutely flew by, helped along by a fantastic performance from gorgeous leading lady Carice van Houten… 🙂
The aeroplane appearances are quite fleeting, the bombers both appearing in single flypasts shot from the ground, so I wouldn’t go and see it just for that. Worth seeing overall though.

Sadly yes 🙁 After all the rave on the telly, there’s six places you can see it that I can find out of the big names, all being carried by Odeon.
DVD?
Well i’ve been showing it where i work but it’s not done that well. Had to fight to keep it for a second week. The problem is its up against a lot of other “quality” films at the moment.
I’d defenitly recomend seeing it if you get a chance.

Was there a B26 CGI model also?
I suppose doing both a Dutch and English version whilst in set would have been too expensive? More marketable though.
Still perhaps a good springboard for the lead actress (yum yum) into English-speaking films.

Unfortunately, because it is subtitled, this film is having a pathetically small release in the UK. 😡
A fate shared by another subtitled war movie – Dark Blue World. I could only find one place in Edinburgh that was actually screening it at the time – and the day I phoned up, they’d just withdrawn it after one week…
