I’m told the 12th will be a very good day – could be better than last year’s equivalent Satd’y which saw the LOWA 707 make an appearance on an ambulance flight. All we need now is the same sort of weather – glorious sunshine last year but no snow, previous year was snow, snow and more snow with one day of sunshine. See you on the mound!

Never quite got to the bottom of this but I believe a combination of visiting ex-pat families and cheap skiing prior to the main season (mainly Brits from mid-Jan to mid-March).Has been as many as 40 ish soviet bloc arrivals on a January Saturday……even featured in Aircraft Illustrated articles and many others.Terrace and fences heaving with Dutch and German enthusiasts.

The 5th is too close to the 6th for it to be the “biggie” – that would be like us flyign somwewhere on Christmas Eve and our Russian friends like to settle into their accomodation with a few litres of vodka first. The 12th is certainly a good day to see the departures.

Nothing definate on what might be seen this time round but its more than likely there will be more Western equipmwent in evidence and a further reduction in Soviet metal. Pulkovo/Rossiya is flying LED-SZG with A319s this winter. In years gone by that was a cert for a smoky 154M.

I maybe should have been more specific,Having done it for the last 4 years there’s always one day when the Russians arrive en masse and go home over a period of weeks.Last year it was Sat 13 Jan but in 2006 nothing turned up on the equivalent Saturday (when Ian Allen did a trip!) ‘cos everything came on the following Wednesday!
I know slots have been requested on 29/12 plus 2/5/11/12 Jan….the question is which is the biggie.I’d have gambled on the only 2 consecutive days i.e.11/12 Jan but rumour has it 5th might be the one.I could do with deffo info.

I’d be surprised if there was any “one big day”. Logically there would have to be two at least.

Any Fri/Sat/Sun in Jan will be busy and interesting down there IMHO.
