I met the daughter of Samuel Gould today. He was killed a few months before she was born following a mid-air collision in the Med in August 1940, operating from HMS Illustrious. A Google search reveals his CWGC details and I see he was Mentioned in Dispatches earlier that year.
Does anyone have (or can point me in the right direction of) any further details of the accident, which airframes were involved or the earlier MID?

Just bumping this thread up again as I’ll be meeting his daughter again soon. Are accident reports for these wartime tragedies available? What about the earlier MID?
