KB976 is now with Kermit Weeks, I don’t know her status. I too visited this Lanc at Strathallan, and followed her progress from being flown in from Canada. I have some good pics of her in the hangar, resplendent in full camouflage scheme ( and not a budgie perch in sight Lancman). Unfortunately, I cant get my Photosuite to send pictures since I wentBroadband. If anyone can tell me how to fix this, I’d be glad to post them.

I was under the impression that the Lanc that CWH stole the Merlins from was the one that Doug Arnold aquired in 1984 (KB889) now with the IWM at Duxford. Up until that time the aircraft was potentially airworthy and at one time was to be flown to the UK.

Lancman…
an interesting side note to this thread.. FM136 currently has the bomb doors fitted to her that were originally fitted to KB994. The remains of her cockpit section are presumed at sandtoft although steves photo on my site shows crash damage.
Will the current owners please fess up to what you have from which airframe??

Thanks David , I visited the Strathallan Collection many times and was dumbstruck every time I stood under the Lanc , Lancman sent me a copy of one of his photos when she had been rolled outside of the Hangar at Strathallan , who owns her now , do you think she will ever be restored ?? , it’s hard to believe that this aircraft was potentially airworthy only 12 years ago.

RE: Sandtoft Airfield
Your getting mixed up- the Strathallan Lancaster was KB976 which ended up in the hanger collapse at Woodford . The fuselage of KB994 was brought in from Canada to help repair her.

RE: Sandtoft Airfield
What happened to the rest of KB994 ???? , is this the ex-Strathallan Lanc/purchased by Charles Church and then crushed in the hangar collapse at BAE Woodford ??? or am I getting mixed up???

RE: Sandtoft Airfield
Good point…
I did nt thyink of it like that. I know it caused great concern and cwh stopped the export until they got the merlin engines off of her. I totally disagree with that as they shoud have remained with the airplane

RE: Sandtoft Airfield
In fairness to you Peter it was sold to the U.K. The are a number of other machine’s which have left Canada for the U.K (namely Hurricane’s) – so is the problem in us buying them or yourself’s wanting Dollar’s for them ?

George – there is the remains of the cockpit of KB994 at Sandtoft but that’s it ! The rear fuselage section is from KB976 and this is in poor condition.
