Do Britannia still fly to SDQ? If not why? Do any other airlines offer direct flights from the UK to SDQ?

Ah well I used SDQ a few years ago and will be using POP (Puerto Plata) this summer and was just wondering if flights still use SDQ. So guesing its just Punta cana, Puerto Plata and La Romana for charters in the Dominican Republic?
I’ve been to Puerto Plata twice now (once with Monarch, once with jmc) and its a nice airport. I’ve also been to La Romana with Britannia and that is one great little airport. Its so tiny and I remember it only having enough space for two or three large jets at any one time. The terminal is very small and wooden, although it looks very nice and new from the outside. The departure lounge has one small shop and a coffee shop.

I remember when I first went to the Dominican Republic back in 1999 with Monarch Airlines, the flight routed LGW-POP-SDQ-LGW. I don’t know if they still do though.
Flying time from the North to the South was only 20 minutes or thereabouts, so the seatbelt sign was on all the way. We stopped in Santo Domingo for a good 90 minutes and were not allowed off of the aircraft.

Think most of the charters now opt for Punta Cana (PUJ) for that part of the Domincan Republic.
I seem to remember SDQ is a tiny airport, although quite a major one for the area. If its anything to do with charter, I would imagine the tour operators find it easier to ship the punters out from PUJ than SDQ off to their resorts.
FCA are definately using PUJ this season, and I think XLA are too.
