Can anyone estimate the price of a single Sahphire-M Countermeasures system?
How much do you think the SAPHIR-M (part of the EWS for the NH-90) might cost? (EWS is $300K a unit) . Here is a description.
This program has been established to cover the provision of chaff/flare dispensers for the Defensive Aids Suite (DAS) for the NH90 helicopter. The SAPHIR-M is a decoy dispenser performing countermeasures against radar and missile threats by optimized ejection of chaff and/or flares. It has three units, the Cartridge Dispenser Modules (CDM), the Sequencing Supply and Safety Unit (SSU) and the Cockpit Control Unit (CCU).
The CDM houses the ammunition magazines and performs the loading identification, the management of the firing impulses and the interface with the SSU and the magazines. SAPHIR-M can operate up to 10 CDMs.
The SSU provides the management of the C & F dispenser and the interface with the helicopter and with the alarm detectors of the EW system when available. It stores the mission parameters and elaborates the ejection programs.
The CCU includes the controls and displays of the system. The SAPHIR-M can identify and use three types of decoys: the NATO 1″x1″x8″ and 2″x1″x8″ (32 cartridges per magazine); a 19 mm MUCALIR cartridge (72 per magazine) and a 40 mm cartridge (18 per magazine).
