A few weeks after the SAS crash….SAS has grounded more than 40 of its MD 80s saying there is a gear problem. I was going through there records of the MD 80 recently and they really have caused problems in the past but not with the gear….but the tail section. Now i wanted to ask if any of these problems have been faced by MD 80s operated by other airines?? SAS had a crash i think in early ninties involving a MD 80 when it landed and its gear collapsed? Can any one give some info.??

RE: SAS ground more than 40 MD 80s.
It may be due to Spanish airline Spanair (belongs to SAS now) crash in Liverpool some months ago in which the landing gear colapsed. Accident report indicated unexpected corrosion in the landing gear.
