I read an article in the (quality paper??!!!) Mail on Sunday that the SAS were buying 4 NH-90 tactical transports to support the war on terror. The article also described how the NH-90 was a “Stealth Helicopter” because of the sensor suite fit. Also AugustaWestland was the prime contractor for the project.
Naturally I took this article with a BIG pinch of salt, as I know how accurate the Daily Mail can be!! Has anyone heard anything else about the story or the contract for SAS helicopters? I know the regiment needs to replace the ageing A-109’s, but I found it hard to believe the SAS would buy a large expensive helicopter, without the type being in service with another branch of the UK military for the logistics and servicing support. The EH-101 would be a logical choice, but I thought the SAS would want a smaller, faster helicopter for anti-terrorist work.
Any views or info on this topic??
