…until you go to Vladivostok!

I’m not sure, Mongu, because I wouldn’t even consider Russia to be semi-Euro, even though the vast majority of it technically is in Asia. I consider it to be 100% Euro, for all practical purposes.

The only piece of Turkey in Europe, is the tiny bit on the West side of the Boshporus – a part of Istanbul.
Not sure how one defines continental boundaries GD1, maybe Turkey is semi-European like Russia?

Isn’t Turkey ‘technically’ a European Country, even though it would fall into a “Middle-Eastern” geographic region, which is part of Asia? Israel, for sure, in not a Euro country. Therefore Turkey begin considered as such, makes sense, whereas Israel, does not.

UEFA also recognises Turkey. In my opinion neither they nor Israel are European countries.
GD1, I agree it is a bit of a mystery why the 757 sold so badly in Australasia. The toss up seems to be 737/A320 at one end and 767 at the other end. The 757 fits in between; maybe it was too small to replace the 767 and too big to replace the 737!

I wouldn’t consider El Al European. However, doesn’t UEFA recognize them, considering they are in one of the qualifying groups for Euro 2004, correct?

and heres an El-Al example – a great looking Liv this one…

below in enclosed a Balair B752 – I’ve seen these before at ACE – B757-2G5s i think they were – sounds like they were aquired from LTE.
Hows about EL AL? They’ve operated a few – or are we not counting them as European?
By: greekdude1 - 30th May 2003 at 06:54
Needless to say, the 757 is VERY prominent in U.S. skies. AA, DL, and UA each operate a fleet of 100 each. NW, CO, HP, and US each operate a good number of them, as well. I’ve only ever seen one in SYD, and that was a Royal Tongan example. They’re very scarce in the lower hemisphere, eh Steve?

nope, prior to getting their A320 family for short haul flights, all SR shorthaul flights were operated by DC9/MD-80’s, F100’s or A310’s, and anything else was operated by Crossair’s Saab 340’s/F50’s/146’s.
Balair got the 752, but it was around the same time SR went belly up, and BB was renamed Belair by owners and tour operators, Hotelplan, to demonstrate it’s independence from SR.
So I’m not sure the 757 ever operated with Balair titles, it certainly never operated for SR, though.

what about Swissair? – or was that just the Subsidery Balair?
Air Scotland don’t operate there own a/c – currently it’s Air Holland B752s after a fall out with Greek operators Electra

As far as I know the only European scheduled 757 operators are:
British Airways
Iberia
Finnair
Icelandair
DHL
Plus a handful of charter airlines of which some are semi-scheduled (eg. Monarch).
How about the new Air Scotland – do they fly yet?

Indeed, however, LH owned Condor and the designations were 767-330, which means Boeing manufactured them for Lufthansa. Interesting how once can lease an aircraft from one of their subsidiaries.
By: Bhoy - 29th May 2003 at 00:44
While LH have operated the 767, they’ve never owned one, those 767’s that have operated in LH colours have all been leased from Condor (and one of those was leased to Condor by Lauda).

Every one but the 757 isn’t bad, though. Especially considering how loyal they are to Airbus. Lufthansa have operated every Boeing except for the 757 and 777.
By: Bhoy - 29th May 2003 at 00:18
they never operated the 757, either, but then, I think BA, AY and IB are the only European Scheduled airlines to have operated the 757, more’s the pity.

You gotta’ love AirFrance. It seems like they have operated every Airbus and Boeing type (I don’t count the MD-95, errrrr 717).
