A mate holidaying on the Isle of Wight has spotted this:
“On 22 August 2012 East Cowes will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first flight of the Saunders Roe Princess – the largest all metal flying boat ever constructed”
There will be a seaplane flypast at 1228 and afterwards in the town hall a talk about the life of A V Roe given by Eric Verdon-Roe. Until 26 August, there will be an exhibition of history and artefacts in the East Cowes Heritage Centre. In the Classic Boat Museum there will be an exhibition of relevant water colours.

I remember one day in 1960 & I was 15 yrs old , my dad was by now a schoolteacher & I was allowed to go on his schools annual summer camp. The camp on this year was Freshwater on the IOW . Not only did I get to see a cocooned up Princess flying boat , but also HMS Vanguard ( the last British battle ship) being towed up the Solent , on its way to Scotland , to be broken up .

Sounds interesting – they were another amazing project that was not realised.
I have a porthole from the one that flew.
Tony, I might have to ask you if I could take a look at that too.. 😮
