It was dismantled at LHR last Autumn and was supposed to move to Manchester in November. There have been many delays, but I saw somewhere last week that the first wing was to be moved soon.
Trident Man is the man with the knowledge!

Zulu Kilo on the move
From sitting at my desk, I’ve just noticed a Trident appear out on the hardstanding between Concorde G-BOAB and just to the south-west of the fire fighting training ‘structure’…….I wonder why she’s been towed out there….??

And will be for at least another 4 years…..:D
Heard the rumours that G-BOAB will be put on display somewhere near T5….but none of us working on T5 can think of where this will be, as yet there has been no rquest that we know of for any modifications to the current layout to accomodate a Concorde anywhere…..

Maybe she is being converted in DC-9 or Bac 1-11:D

Apparently, they are keeping the outboard engines but not refitting the centre engine. Don’t know why.

Well done TPS. A donation will be made. Nice to read a success story.

The Concorde parked out on the airfield is G-BOAB which has been donated by British Airways to the BAA (British Airports Authority) It hasn’t flown since 2000 and has not had the modifications done to it required after the Paris crash. This is a temporary parking place for it to be displayed. Eventually it is to go on display around the Terminal 5 area which is still under construction.

I gazed fondly down on her today as I departed 09R this morning for SFO on UA955 (B777). For once I got a window seat!
I also noticed a Concorde parked out just off the cross runway, coned off.
What is that all about?

Thanks for the info…
Quite detailed..
Does G-AWZK still have her engines in place. I read on their website that they were not planing on installing the engines once the aircraft was displayed at Manchester aeropark

The last passenger flights by Tridents took place on 31st Dec 1985 with the final two aircraft doing parallel landings at Heathrow on runways 27L and 27R. The two aircraft in question were G-AWZO arriving from Manchester and G-AWZU arriving from Amsterdam. I dont know which was actually last to land.
Although the Wroughton Trident’s CoA expired in Nov 1985 several Tridents were flown in 1986 for one off ferry flights to museums and their final destinations.
G-AWZJ Heathrow-Prestwick 24/02/86
G-AWZM Heathrow-Wroughton 28/02/86
G-AWZN Heathrow-Cranfield 07/03/86
G-AWZO Heathrow-Hatfield 18/04/86
G-AWZR Heathrow-Teesside 19/03/86
G-AWZS Heathrow-Teesside 12/03/86
G-AWZU Heathrow-Stansted 05/03/86
The last ever flight of a Trident 3 was 18/04/86 of G-AWZO going back to it’s birthplace of Hatfield.
Hope this helps.
Any Corrections/Additions/Comments welcomed.

Thanks I guess I should have checked my copy…probably all their C.O.A. expired by year end of 1985…I was just curious whether any of the last BA Tridents were given ferry permits to be flown to UK museum or other airports in the years after 1985…

Wrecks & Relics says that its C.o.A expired 13th December 1985. Presumably it arrived before then?

Would the Trident G-AWZM cn 2314 preserved Science Museum Collection, Wroughton Airfield have been flown into the Airfield before the end of 1985.

Don’t know which trident it was, but I think that the last Trident flight in the UK was late December 1985… Something to do with EU noise regs coming into force on 1/1/1986….

Quick Trident Inquiry…the last flights by British AW were flown in in maybe late 1985…anyone know which British Reg. Trident make the last Passenger Flight in the UK?

The Trident was not designed to be dismantled.
The point, I think, that David is making is that to move the Trident to Manchester, it will (almost) inevitably lose a lot of structural integrity, as the wing box is an integral structure with the fuselage. You don’t just remove the wings.
It has been this problem which has caused many Tridents to be lost – simply because they are so difficult to move.
Nevertheless, I wish the team luck – if anyone can do it, they can.
Cheers
Bruce
