My understanding of the situ is that it’s a choice between the F3, Sea harrier and Jaguar. I say dump the Tornado F3, its never been any good and the half baked upgrade programe it is going through is not going to help matters against a Mig 29 let alone an SU 27/30. Dump it and get a cheap lease deal for a couple of squadrons of F16’s until the Typhoon turns up, we would save a wedge and build useful single seat air-superiority fighter experience at the same time. The Jaguar may be short on range but it is well upgraded, capable and easily deployable, its the only aircraft the RAF has with an off boresight AAM capability and with in flight refueling can play a very usefull role. When the Typhoon enters service why not have more of the squadrons in a swing role, do we realy need so many dedicated air defence units, look how little the fighter squadrons of the RAF have contributed to recent campaigns, mostly due to poor kit, which takes me back to the F3, DUMP IT!
