Scale Model De Havilland Sea Vixen

I want to build a 1:6 or there abouts scale jet model of the Sea Vixen. Does anyone out there have access to real drawings of this aircraft? This model will have twin turbines in her and will be full scale. I have found line drawings but a lot of them are not quite right. I especially need cutaway or sectional drawings of the fuselage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have just the thing for you maybe.

It just so happens that I work on the Sea Vixen at the Midland Air Museum and have my own manual for her. Apart from all the mechanical detail, it also has all cross sections cutaways and all the dimensions you need to build a full scale Vixen.

It’s a proper DeHavilland Manual and it will be as accurate as you will ever find with the info you need.

I’ll sort out all the info you want and send it to you. PM me so we can chat more and so I can get your address to send the drawings 😉

Most models get the cross section of the nose wrong, reproducing it as circular rather than slightly flattened at the top and bottom. You could try contacting Andy who runs the Blackburn Buccaneer site, I have a feeling he had some data on Sea Vixens and migt have accurate measurements, if not drawings. Site is www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk

You are dead right with the fuse being represented as round when it is a flattened tube after the radome. In the high end of scale competition this would be noticed immediately. I will see if I can contact Andy on that website. I have already contacted ‘Bruce’ through this forum and hope to get some info soon.

Still looking for detail. If anyone is interested, please visit my website at www.modeljets.com.au and have a look at the photo pages of the Jetmasters in particular. The next contest is in 2009 in Israel and I hope to have the Sea Vixen ready for this event.
Thanks

Hope it helps

Hi CrenoufQQ

Did that and haven’t been able to find one that is scale correct yet. Will keep on trying. Thanks
